Interior Design for the Home
This course will introduce you to some easy methods for creating a lovely home. Learn how to think like a designer and confidently choose colours, patterns and furnishings that are practical, good-looking and will delight your friends and family. Learn also how our surroundings have an effect on our behaviour, and how we can utilise that to make our homes feel great as well as looking wonderful. Each room in the home will be considered, discussed and designed.
What topics are covered?
Colours and colour schemes; Use of space; Cohesion in interiors; Texture; Creating mood & concept boards; Perspective drawing; Scale drawing; Understanding home construction; Measuring the space to be designed; Looking at space in different ways including understanding how your home is constructed – what to take into account when redesigning a room, how to make the best use of available space and to choose the right furniture for your space.
Who is the course aimed at?
Anyone who wants to create a beautiful and cohesive home. No previous experience necessary. Suitable for beginners.
Who will be my tutor?
Sim Barker is a designer with 17 years experience working with domestic and commercial interiors.The rooms she creates are warm and welcoming, bringing beauty into client’s homes and workplaces. Sim has also worked with many of the UK’s designer paint makers, who value her unrivalled eye for colour and style.
How will I learn?
You will learn through the creation of mood and concept boards, by drawing and measuring and discussing ideas in class.

Where will I need to go on my first day?On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Roper Building at City Centre Campus.
What do I need to bring?
Notepad and pen. A3 folder to put your work would be useful.
What else do I need to know?When you have been enrolled on your course you will receive a confirmation email containing information about where to go, campus information, parking and the Student Code of Conduct. This email will be sent to the email address provided in the online booking.You will be required to wear a photographic ID badge at all times when in College. Please email a passport style photograph stating your full name and course title in the subject line to StudentID@bathcollege.ac.uk
To avoid disappointment, please make sure you enrol on your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course. If a course is cancelled, you will be informed and your course fees refunded in full. Please see Terms and Conditions of Enrolment.The course will not run on bank holidays or during half term. Please check the term dates.
Cancelling your enrolment

Refunds will not be issued if a learner is unable to attend due to a change of mind including concerns about Covid-19, accommodation, domestic circumstances, work commitments or if the College requires a learner to leave for reasons of conduct.
