The course

005c
The  University of Bath International Foundation Year is a one-year full-time licensed course that will prepare you for entry onto your chosen degree at the University of Bath. If you achieve the necessary grades at the end of the course, you will be guaranteed automatic entry into Year 1 of your chosen degree course.

You do not need to apply through UCAS.

The International Foundation Year was developed especially for international students, and gives you the opportunity to learn how to study in the UK, and to develop the appropriate study skills for when you begin your degree at the University of Bath. There is one entry in September each year.

The course is delivered by Bath College, the university’s partner organisation in the centre of Bath, where all your teaching will take place. This means you will be a registered student there while you are on the course. You can find out what it means to be a licensed student on the IFY.

What our students say

Vox pop Bilal

Bilal El Achab, from Morocco/Spain, MEng Robotics Engineering

‘It was strange at first, everything was new and different from Spain, people live differently, but the teachers have helped me to gradually get used to it. I think this process has helped me to mature and grow up a little. There’s more home study and fewer class hours than at school, and there’s no one telling me what to do, so I have learned to manage my own time, both my free time and my study time. Bath is a nice small city, and I can walk everywhere. But it’s cold for me!’

Xuening_CHEN
‘Lexi’ Xuening CHEN from China: ‘We learned lots of different skills, such as how to write essays and how to organize our study time successfully. I also improved a lot in English, and I’m sure these things will help me when I go on to the University of Bath. Bath is a fantastic city, and I definitely want to stay here!’
