This course is an introduction to bricklaying for anyone interested in learning the basics. You will learn about setting out brickwork, mixing mortar, levelling brickwork and using tools appropriately.

What topics are covered?

Health & Safety requirements for bricklaying tasks; Selection and use of hand tools and equipment required for bricklaying; Introduction to basic brickwork techniques; Rolling mortar to achieve correct bed depth; Correct perping of bricks; Laying bricks correctly; How to accurately cut bricks; Mixing Mortar.

Who is the course aimed at?

Anyone interested in developing their DIY skills. Suitable for beginners, no experience necessary.

How will I learn?

Tuition is based in a practical workshop and learning will take place through set practical tasks, and demonstrations from a City and Guilds qualified tutor.

Where will I need to go on my first day?

On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Cam Building at Somer Valley Campus.

What do I need to bring?

All tools and materials will be supplied. If you have safety boots and eye protection please bring them along. Overalls if required. Tape measure.

What else do I need to know?

To avoid disappointment, please make sure you enrol on your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course. If a course is cancelled, you will be informed and your course fees refunded in full. Please see Terms and Conditions of Enrolment.

The course will not run on bank holidays or during half term. Please check the term dates.

    Great tutor who was easy to understand and knew good methods of teaching bricklaying. Very good facilities a good course to give you key knowledge in the subject. It was a shame that due to work commitments I had to miss the last two weeks! Thanks for the knowledge though
