Motor Vehicle Maintenance: Introduction
This introduction to Motor Vehicle Maintenance course is for those wanting to learn the basics of motor vehicle maintenance to cut the costs of routine maintenance. You will learn a range of basic skills including removing and refitting a road wheel if you get a flat tyre, replacing wiper blades, checking lighting systems and changing light bulbs, inspecting brake discs, oil and filter changes, examining the cooling system, checking tyre pressure and legal limits and understanding the signs and signals that your car will give to highlight maintenance requirements. What topics are covered?
You will learn a range of skills to assist with basic vehicle maintenance including: How to remove and refit a road wheel if you get a flat tyre; How to change wiper blades; How to change light bulbs; How to check and inspect disc brakes; How to complete oil and filter changes; Understand the signals and signs that your car will give to highlight maintenance requirements; By learning and understanding some of these simple tasks will result in potential savings on garage and mechanic costs. You will be fully supported by the tutor.

Anyone interested in performing basic maintenance tasks on their own vehicles. Suitable for beginners, no experience necessary.

How will I learn?
The course will be based in the workshop to give you the maximum experience. Practical demonstrations and individual tuition. You will also be encouraged to bring your own car to be able to carry out the practical tasks which would be specific to your vehicle.

Where will I need to go on my first day?On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Cam Building at Somer Valley Campus.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring your own work boots and overalls and during your course you will be encouraged to bring your own car.
What else do I need to know?When you have been enrolled on your course you will receive a confirmation email containing information about where to go, campus information, parking and the Student Code of Conduct. This email will be sent to the email address provided in the online booking.You will be required to wear a photographic ID badge at all times when in College. Please email a passport style photograph stating your full name and course title in the subject line to StudentID@bathcollege.ac.uk
To avoid disappointment, please make sure you enrol on your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course. If a course is cancelled, you will be informed and your course fees refunded in full. Please see Terms and Conditions of Enrolment.
