    A very enjoyable course.
We ended up making jewellery, which whilst was not a subject I would have chosen, still taught me some new skills and gave me a better appreciation for the fine craftsmanship which goes into jewellery making.

Most importantly it would have been nice to have done one activity. Instead we had the tutors feeling extremely rushed and commenting constantly on time. I would have liked my day to have ‘felt’ a little more relaxed. I was really disappointed to find myself in a kitchen…as most of us experience that everyday. I thought the tutors were great. Thanks for creating the mystery day and giving me the opportunity.

Great course, fun activities, organisational side of things needs improvement.

We arrived at 9.15am as directed to complete some paperwork but were then sat there until well past 10am before being told what we were doing and where we were going. Absolutely no communication about us having to wait longer (we all believed it was due to start at 9.30am but a course tutor said it was always a 10am start – you need to be much clearer about the timings!!).

We were split into two groups but care was taken to ensure we were kept with our friends.

Our first activity was to sculpt a woman’s body out of clay, which we then dipped into hot wax 5 times to create a mould. We cut it open and took out the clay, tied it back together and sealed the edges with more wax, then filled with plaster of paris. Once set we peeled off the wax and had a great sculpture to take home. It was a brilliant activity but rather annoyingly, after the long wait before the course started, felt somewhat rushed through the process.

In the afternoon (again poor communication about where we were to meet so tine was wasted) the two groups swapped over and we were now doing a glass mosaic. This was meant to be of the human form too but the tutor kindly gave us free reign to create our own designs, which I did. Again the whole process felt very rushed and I ended up taking some putty home to finish it off. I also had quite a bit of help from the tutor to cut the glass to enable me to finish on time. It was fun, not an activity I’d probably have chosen but that was sort of the point of the mystery course.

In summary, I had a great day with my friend, took part in fun activities for a very reasonable amount of money but the timings, organisational and communication side of things could be vastly improved. I’d still (and do) recommend it though.

I persuaded a couple of friends we should try a mystery course together, we didn’t know what to expect but ended up having a great day. We did two activities united by the theme of the human figure. In the morning we were cutting coloured glass and glueing it to make mosaics – rather harder than it looked and we all got very gluey, but it was great to see the variety of designs and colours. In the afternoon we made torso statues by modelling in clay, moulding in wax and casting with plaster. Both activities were well designed to fit into the time given, and the tutors were friendly and helped everyone get stuck in. I am pleased with both my creations and keen to come again and try out some more skills.

What a fantastic way to spend the day,
My mystery course was called ‘figure it out’…..
We spent the morning creating a figure in cut glass.
The tutor was very encouraging and the atmosphere was friendly and fun ,
I’ve not done anything like this before and I must say I was rather pleased with the result! Who would of thought ?
The afternoon we got to sculpt a torso out of clay. After creating a mould by dipping our creation in wax , it was filled with plaster,! Mine now proudly sits at home and I am delighted with the results.
Again the tutors were amazingly encouraging and helpful , and it was so much fun.
Many many thanks to all involved in the mystery day ,I would happily join in again on the next course but it’s already fully booked, so I’m adding to the mailing list so as not to miss out!

Loved the surprise of not knowing what I was going to do. And really enjoyed the day – took home a glass plaque (morning session – learnt how to cut glass and stick it onto a piece of plain glass to create a work of art) and a torso (afternoon session – clay modelling, wax dipping to make a mould for a plaster of paris instant antiquity!). Really fun, not too rushed, nice projects to enjoy afterwards. Will definitely sign up for another.

Brilliant way to spend a day, learning new skills and having fun.
The anticipipation of wondering what we were going to do added to the day.
We all completed two objects to take home….they may not win any prizes ,at least in my case but it gave a good sense of achievement.
Definitely recommend anyone giving it a go, if you can cope with surprises.
What could be better…improve communication re start time.

Really lovely day, discovered skills I didn’t know I had. Met some great people and impressed my daughters with the things I made! Thoroughly recommend the Mystery Course.
