Site Carpentry Level 2 Diploma

This course is designed for adult learners who wish to achieve their full level 2 qualification in site carpentry. The Site Carpentry Diploma allows you to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Site Carpentry. Successful completion of the level 1 Carpentry & Joinery Diploma is usually required. It covers the following skills: first fix flooring and roofing; first fix frames, partitions and stairs; second fixing operations; carpentry maintenance; setting up and operating a circular saw.

What topics are covered?

Topics covered include

  • Health, safety and welfare in the construction and associated industries.
  • Understanding information, quantities and communications with others.
  • Understanding construction technology.
  • Preparation and use of portable power tools.
  • How to carry out first fixing operations.
  • How to carry out second fixing operations.
  • How to carry out structural carcassing operations.
  • How to carry out maintenance to non-structural carpentry work.

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is aimed at mature students who are looking for a condensed version of the Level 2 Carpentry course. It runs for one day a week at the Construction Centre, Somer Valley Campus and requires considerable commitment and a high level of motivation from applicants.

What are the entry requirements?

Completion of the Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery.

What qualifications will I gain?

You will gain a Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry.

How will I learn?

There will be practical workshop sessions and classroom theory sessions.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through workshop-based practical assessments and multiple choice end-of-unit knowledge tests.

What can I do after this course?

On completion of this course, you can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry.

Are there any additional costs?

Exam fees are included in course cost as well as the workbook which will be a valuable reference after the course.

Where will I need to go on my first day?

On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Cam Building at Somer Valley Campus.

What do I need to bring?

Safety boots, tape measure and stationary kit for classroom based sessions.

What else do I need to know?

To avoid disappointment, please make sure you apply for your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course.
