Last week saw hundreds of people come and participate in fun and educational activities at Bath College’s stand in the Imagineering Tent at the Bath and West Show.
Children were immediately drawn to the Bath College stand as there were so many interactive activities from the College’s Department of Engineering, Construction and Computing for them to participate in.
Wednesday saw the opening of the show, and despite the drizzle, the crowds descended on the tent. There were queues for the brickwork activity, where children had a go at rolling mortar and laying bricks, all with the help of two of our friendly and upbeat students.
All generations were impressed with the technology on show as many people were seeing virtual reality headsets for the first time, staggering around amusing the crowds! Mechanoid, Bath College’s Meccano robot, was a real crowd pleaser, showing off his best dance moves to anyone who would watch and everyone enjoyed learning about the inner workings of motor vehicles.
On Thursday the temperatures started to soar, which encouraged a lot of visitors to our air conditioning unit where they could cool down and have a go at using the refrigeration thermometer.
Kids of all ages were enticed by programming minibots on the Mars rover activity, where they navigated their minibot around the surface of Mars and also won a Mars Bar!
On Friday and Saturday, the weather had improved again and the Bath & West Show visitors were queuing for ice-creams around the site.
The stonemasonry stand ran out of tablets for people to carve their own initial as it was such a popular activity. There was a lot of talent coming through the Imagineering tent.
Another crowd-pleaser was the carpentry stand, as children were amazed at seeing how a roof was built (and seeing power tools and saws in action!).
There were happy faces all round as children had their Imagineering passport stamped after they had taken part in one of Bath College’s many interactive activities. It was wonderful to see so many talented children, we hope they will be enrolling in a course at the College in 5-10 years!
Feedback from parents was extremely positive too, with lots of selfies and posts on social media.
Staff and students at the Bath College stand worked extremely hard to ensure that everyone enjoyed the stand. We’re looking forward to next year already.
