Course Overview

This 2-year Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Practice follows on from our Part Time Level 3 qualification in Counselling. It is for those wishing to achieve professional status in counselling. In the Diploma you will learn about professional ethics and boundaries, the complexities of the therapeutic relationship, and develop self-critical and self-evaluate skills. You will gain supervision skills, understand the effectiveness of supervision and develop an understanding of different theoretical perspectives. You will also participate in personal development groups within the course programme. There will be many different resources used for learning which will help meet the individual needs of students.

In addition, students will be in placement with an agency where they will have to compete a minimum of 100 hours of supervised counselling practice. They will need to achieve a competency to practice observation before they can start their placement and will join the BACP as student members. Students also need to take part in a minimum of 25 hours of personal therapy over the duration of the course.

Frequently asked questions

You will be taught by a specialist tutor via face-to-face lessons in the classroom and online sessions. Units will be delivered as lectures, tutorials, group discussions and experiential activities. You will be assessed through written journals, essays, practical exams and a written external exam.

 

This course is aimed at adults aged 19+. Each applicant will be contacted for an interview.

You will need to hold a Level 3 qualification in Counselling that contains both an element of theory and practical skills to enrol in this course. You will have already studied and achieved a good grounding in counselling skills and counselling theory and have acquired a good understanding of ethical practice.

 

Upon successful completion of this 2-year course and your 100 hours placement, you can gain employment as a fully qualified counsellor.

 

To avoid disappointment, please make sure you apply for your chosen course early. Priority for places will be given to students who completed their Level 3 qualification at Bath College. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course.

 

You will gain an AIM Award Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Practice and achieve professional status in counselling. This qualification is recognised by the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
