The AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting covers high-level accounting and finance topics and tasks. Students will look at and become comfortable with a wide range of financial management skills and applications, and gain competencies in drafting financial statements for limited companies, recommending accounting systems strategy, and constructing and presenting complex management accounting reports. Students will also learn about specialist areas such as tax, auditing, credit management, and cash and treasury management.

The purpose of this Level 4 qualification is to enhance the skills developed from the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting, enabling students to maximise opportunities in their current or new employment. It is also suitable for those who are already working in finance and would like to become an AAT full member and/or study for chartered account status.

AAT qualifications are internationally recognised. Members are represented at every level of the finance and accounting world, including students studying for a career in finance, people already working in accountancy and self-employed business owners.

This course has four mandatory units:

  • Management Accounting: Budgeting
  • Management Accounting: Decision and Control
  • Financial Statements of Limited Companies
  • Accounting Systems and Controls

It includes two additional optional units:

  • Business Tax
  • Personal Tax

You will be taught by a specialist tutor via a mix of face-to-face lessons in the classroom and weekly remote drop-in tutorials. Students must successfully complete the three mandatory unit assessments, one synoptic assessment plus unit assessments for the two optional units to achieve this qualification. These may include multiple-choice questions, numeric gap-full questions, or question tools that replicate workplace activities. Some tasks will also require extended written responses.


All assessments are computer based and will take place on campus. Students who are not local or unable to travel to the campus to participate in the exams will need to arrange this with a different venue and pay an extra fee.

This course is aimed at adults aged 18 and 19+. Each applicant will be contacted for an interview.


You will need to have successfully completed the AAT Accounting Diploma Level 3 qualification to enrol in this course. All students will also be expected to have their GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English at Grades C/4 or above.

You will gain an AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting.

 

Upon successful completion of the course, you can find employment in a wide variety of well-paid accountancy and finance jobs, or progress to further study. Examples of jobs you can apply for include Professional Accounting Technician, Assistant Auditor, Payroll Manager, Commercial Analyst, Senior Financial Officer, Tax Supervisor or VAT Accountant.

 

You will need to register for AAT student membership to study this qualification.

To avoid disappointment, please make sure you apply for your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course.
