Course Overview

We are delighted to offer you the fantastic opportunity to study Forensics and Criminal Investigation at Bath College, giving you an opportunity to explore the application of forensic science and criminological theories in a dynamic, exciting environment. Students will engage in practical experiments in our newly fitted laboratories, following processes from collecting evidence to producing forensic reports suitable for court. They will also develop their knowledge of the social science of criminology, enabling them an enhanced understanding of not only how people commit crime but also why. Units and topics throughout this course include: Criminal Investigation Procedures in Practice, Forensic Investigations Procedures in Practice, and Applications of Criminal and Forensic Psychology. As a Forensic and Criminal Investigation student you will benefit from a varied, skilled teaching team with a wealth of experience in criminal justice, forensic science and psychology. Additionally you will benefit from strong tutorial support to encourage personal development, such as target setting to achieve high grades, time management and organisation skills to maintain commitment to your academic studies and work placement opportunities.

5 GCSE's at a grade 4 or above with 4s in English, Maths and 5 in Science.
The qualification will take two years to complete, the programme has a combination of internal and external assessments, and all students will be assessed through a range of methods e.g. coursework, portfolio and evidence building, presentations, practical's and examinations for four external units. Assessment will be marked at Pass, Merit or Distinction. As part of the programme students will be committed to completing work experience in a relevant area. This qualification comes with UCAS points and students can achieve a maximum of D*D*D* which is 168 UCAS Points (equivalent to 3 x A Levels).
