Adult floristry learners at Bath College have created floral arrangements for the college’s Charity of the Year, Dorothy House.
Bath College delivered the first arrangements to the Dorothy House on 20 May. As part of their classes, students learned the importance of colour combinations for professional floristry displays and the positive impact these can have in emotionally sensitive environments, such as a hospice.
The palliative and end-of-life care provider will receive a new floral arrangement every two weeks from May to November. The initiative helps students gain professional experience while brightening the space for patients, visitors, and key workers.
Karen Simmons, Manager of Part-Time Adult Learning at Bath College, said, “Our learners were delighted to supply flowers for Dorothy House. It’s such an incredible charity, and so many of us have a personal connection to the work they do.

Creating these displays worked perfectly with our classroom modules and gave the students a wonderful opportunity to display their new skills. We are all delighted to continue this partnership throughout the course.”
Chelsea Wallace, Corporate Fundraiser at Dorothy House, added, “The floral arrangement donations from Bath College are so appreciated and will truly enhance the welcome areas at the Hospice for our patients, families, and visitors.
It’s such a kind and thoughtful initiative from the college and students, and a wonderful reminder that acts of kindness, such as these beautiful floral arrangements, mean so much.”

The ongoing partnership between Bath College and Dorothy House will continue to benefit adult learners' development and support the wellbeing of key workers and palliative care patients, with further events planned throughout the year to raise funds and awareness for the charity.
