We were absolutely delighted to see the talents of one of our students being celebrated this summer. Jennie Regan, a dedicated masonry and stone carving student at Bath College, showcased two of her pieces at the renowned Miserden Sculpture Exhibition, set in the heart of the Cotswolds.

The annual exhibition was organised and curated by the Cotswold Sculptors Association and welcomed visitors from across the region. The event ran for three months, giving art lovers and members of the public ample opportunity to explore the extensive grounds and appreciate the creative works on display.

Over 80 artists contributed to this year's show, making it one of the largest open-air sculpture exhibitions in the area. Their works were displayed to striking effect throughout the formal gardens and woodland areas surrounding Miserden House, a historic estate known for its beautifully maintained grounds and sweeping views of the countryside. The sculptures ranged from classical stone carvings to contemporary installations, offering a diverse and engaging experience for all visitors.

It was a fully immersive event where guests could wander through the peaceful gardens, absorbing the atmosphere while encountering sculptures nestled among the trees, beside ponds, or standing proudly on manicured lawns. Many of the artists, including Jennie, took inspiration from nature, making the location a perfect backdrop for their work.

Jennie Regan’s journey into stone carving began when she enrolled in a short introductory course at Bath College. Finding herself captivated by the craft, she decided to continue her training on a full-time basis. She successfully achieved her Level 3 qualification in Banker Masonry, honing her technical skills and deepening her creative practice.

During her time at the College, Jennie also took part in several community projects, including carving workshops for local schools in Twerton, Bath. These projects, led by the College, provided valuable opportunities for students to work collaboratively, engage with the wider community, and share their passion for traditional skills. For Jennie, these projects were an important part of her learning, helping her build confidence and gain experience working on public commissions.

Her exhibited pieces at Miserden were inspired by the natural forms she encountered during her walks through the Somerset countryside, near her home. She has long drawn creativity from her connection with the natural world, often sketching ideas during her walks and later developing them into finished stone works. Her sculptures reflect the textures, shapes, and quiet beauty of the environment, translating her observations into lasting works of art.

Alongside her home practice, Jennie continued to develop her skills at a women’s stone carving workshop, held at the College on Tuesday evenings. This supportive and collaborative environment allowed her to refine her techniques further, meet like-minded creatives, and share knowledge within the local carving community.

In addition to her involvement at Miserden, Jennie’s work was also featured in Bath during the National Garden Scheme’s open garden event later in June. This provided yet another platform for her to share her creations with the public and continue building her profile as an emerging artist.

We’re incredibly proud of Jennie’s achievements and look forward to seeing her future projects take shape. You can follow her journey and see more of her work on Instagram: @jenniecregan.
