Distance Learning FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much spare time do I need to complete my course?

We recommend 6 – 8 hours per week to help you complete your assessments and the course on time, so you don’t fall behind.

What happens if I don’t study regularly?

We check you’re up to date with your learning. If you become inactive for four weeks or more, you’ll receive a supportive email and SMS text to check on you. If you begin to struggle with regular study, please let us know.

If you’re flagged as an inactive student, we will call you twice to check that everything is okay.

Are there any enrolment fees?

There are no enrolment fees for Level 1 or Level 2 courses, meaning you can gain a qualification from the comfort of your own home at no cost. For Level 3 courses, you may have to pay an enrolment fee. If you’re eligible, you might be able study for free. Please email studentfunding@bathcollege.ac.uk for more details.

Why do you need so much of my personal information?

We understand. Sharing your personal information can be worrying, but we need a few details for your enrolment. We need these to confirm to the government that you’re eligible to study and access Adult Skills funding. Please ask our team if you have any concerns about your data security.

Do I get a certificate when I finish?

Yes, you’ll receive one in the post after you complete the course, so you can add an accredited course to your CV when you apply for jobs. Please make sure all your information, like your address, is up to date.

Do you need good ICT skills to study online?

We understand that not everyone is an ICT wizard. Our accessible learning environment is clear and simple. Distance learning courses at Bath College help everyone thrive – no matter your computer skills.

Do I need access to a computer?

You can study on tablets or smartphones, but we recommend using a computer. Larger screens make for a smoother learning experience. Access to the internet is essential for your learning.

Can I study on paper?

We can’t accept handwritten assessments or any physical copies of work. This can delay your learning and make it difficult to complete your course on time.

All course learning content is available to download and print for your own use on the learning platform. And because we have a high number of learners, we can’t offer to print and post this for you.

Who is there to support me?

You’ll have support from your assigned tutor and our Learning Support Coordinator to help you study and plan progress.

This means you’ll have the same access and opportunities as our on-campus learners, helping you complete your course without any worries. You are not alone.

Can I study for free if I am from overseas?

You must have lived in the UK or the European Economic Area for at least three years to secure a funded place on this course.

Visa and immigration rules can sometimes be confusing. Please email info@bathcollege.ac.uk, and we will explain how it works.
