This 10-week Art and Design for Intermediates course is designed for learners who would like to explore their creativity, develop practical artistic skills, and gain confidence in expressing themselves through art and design. No previous experience is required, making it ideal for complete beginners or those returning to learning.
Throughout the course, learners will be introduced to the fundamental elements of art and principles of design through a range of enjoyable, hands-on activities. They will have the opportunity to experiment with different materials, techniques, and creative processes, including drawing, painting, colour exploration, composition, and design development. Learners will be encouraged to explore their own ideas, take creative risks, and discover their individual artistic style in a supportive and inclusive environment.
The course aims to develop observational, creative, and problem-solving skills while building confidence and independence in artistic practice. Learners will learn how to generate ideas, explore visual communication, and create original artwork through practical projects and sketchbook activities. Emphasis will be placed on experimentation, self-expression, and enjoying the creative process rather than producing perfect outcomes.
All materials and equipment will be provided, including a range of art media and objects for observational work. Learners will have access to tutor guidance and feedback throughout the course to support their development and encourage progression.
By the end of the course, learners will have gained confidence in using a variety of art and design techniques, developed a portfolio of creative work, and completed a personal project that reflects their learning and creative journey. Learners will also be encouraged to identify opportunities for further study, community participation, or independent creative practice.
