Entry Requirements

There are no grade entry requirements. However, this course is for you if you want to resit your English GCSEs.

You will attend an interview and assessment with our tutors to decide if the course is the right step for you.

Please remember that the course will only go ahead if we receive the right number of applications.

The college will invite you to an interview via email.

During the interview, you must mention which college campus you wish to study at.

What topics are covered?

The course covers basic English topics to help you achieve a Grade 4 or above:

  • Reading analysing fiction and non-fiction texts from a range of periods.
  • Writing producing clear, structured, and engaging creative and transactional writing.
  • Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar
  • Developing Vocabulary and Technical Accuracy
  • Speaking and Listening
How will I be taught and assessed?

In person, you will attend our evening classes at either the Somer Valley Campus in Radstock or the Bath City Centre Campus.

We recommend studying in person if you are starting your English GCSE journey, so you can have extra support from our expert tutors.

You will sit your GCSE English exam in May and June.

To help you prepare, you will complete mock exams so that you feel ready to pass the real exam with confidence.

What can I do next?

This course will open the door to many opportunities.

After you pass your GCSE English exam (GCSE Grade 4 or higher), you can progress to a higher-level qualification in a subject of your choice or apply for job roles.

Many employers and courses require a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English.

Are there any additional costs?

GCSE and FS English are FREE at the point of entry until you achieve a Grade 4 or C. If you already hold a Grade 4 or Grade C at GCSE, then a course fee will be incurred.
