If English is not your first language, we can help you develop your skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
We offer ESOL at a variety of levels, with pathways to accredited qualifications (if you're ready for a formal exam), or college certificates (if you'd like to build up your core skills).
The academic year is divided into three terms, with classes starting each term and running for 8 to 15 weeks, depending on the term (term 1 = 8 weeks, term 2 = 11 weeks and term 3 = 15 weeks). All classes are taught at our City Centre Campus by qualified English language teachers.
There are no entry requirements, but you will be invited to come into College for an initial English language assessment to determine your level and what course is best for you. You will also be asked to bring in relevant immigration documents so we can check you are eligible to study.
We offer morning, afternoon, and evening classes for most of our courses.
Morning and afternoon classes are taught in-person at the college. Evening courses are taught in a hybrid style (50% online, 50% face-to-face).
ESOL College Certificate (RARPA - Non-Exam Classes)
These
are part-time English courses which run for 4 hours per week (two 2-hour
classes). You will develop your skills in reading, writing, listening and
speaking, as well as develop your understanding and use of English grammar and
pronunciation. You will have individual and personalised language goals. Your
teachers will work with you to check and record your progress.
ESOL Qualification Courses (Exam Classes)
These are
part-time English courses which run for 6 hours per week (two 3-hour classes).
There are classes at different levels based on the Common European Framework and
exams in Reading, Writing, and Speaking and Listening at the end of the course.
In addition to specific exam practice, you will also develop your general
English language abilities including your understanding and use of grammar and
pronunciation.
If you enrol on our college certificate course, you will receive feedback and assessment on your individual learning goals, and a certificate of completion from Bath College.
If you enrol on an accredited qualification, you will receive a certificate in your chosen subject area issued by the Ascentis awarding organisation. The level of your qualification will depend on your initial assessment, however we offer courses that align with the Common European Framework (CEF) levels A0 to C1, equivalent to Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) Pre-Entry to Level 2.
