Frequently Asked Questions

Entry Requirements

Course leaders recommend an EHCP, but it is not essential.

If they don't have an EHCP, we may consider them if they:

  • Have SEND or barriers affecting confidence or study skills
  • Benefit from structured support
  • Need help to build independence
  • Want to prepare for a Level 1 pathway
  • Need time to try multiple vocational areas

This criterion guarantees the programme is the right fit for the learner's learning level, needs, and goals.

While there are no official grade requirements, most learners typically work at an Entry Level 3 when they join.

At Level 3, they are comfortable joining group sessions and feel ready to learn basic study skills.

Learners must attend a friendly, informal chat. This helps the tutors decide if the course is right for them.

Don't worry, there are no formal tests.

This is a relaxed space where you can meet the tutor and discuss the learner’s needs.

They do not need to be “ready for college”.

All that we ask is that they feel motivated and ready to progress to a Level 1 course or internship.

If this course isn't right for them, we recommend the Future Skills course pathway.

What topics are covered?

Each module in Future Choices builds real confidence and experience to lead a more independent life with purpose.

  • Explore multiple vocational areas
  • Practical skills sessions, teamwork, and time management
  • Digital skills development
  • Learning within a community
  • Personal development and study skills
How will I be taught and assessed?

Every class is practical and highly supportive, with expert SEND tutors.

A practical, supportive environment allows learners to gain hands-on experience in scenarios that mirror real-life responsibilities.

Small class sizes reduce anxiety and avoid overstimulation.

And group activities are calm and structured to develop communication and
teamwork skills.

The Somer Valley Campus offers advanced SEND facilities, with quiet breakout rooms for one-to-one reflection and emotional regulation.

They will also have access to the wider college under supervision.

This way, they can experience the wider college and take steady
steps towards independence.

Every lesson helps learners feel ready to grow in a supportive space.
