Does your young person want to explore different employment options? This course is ideal for those 16 and over with moderate learning difficulties.
It connects foundational learning and employment pathways to help them develop confidence as they build employability skills.
Why should they study this course?
They do not need grades to start. This is a practical development course not academic.
However, learners need an EHCP, as this course offers structured support.
At this stage, most learners work at Entry Level 2 or 3, meaning they have basic independence and communication skills.
If they thrive in a supportive and structured environment, this course will help them take the next step.
Learners must attend a friendly admission.
Don't worry there is no formal test. This is a relaxed chat to see if the course is right for them. The process includes:
Learners don't need to be confident yet.
This programme will help anybody who wants to build independence and try different vocational areas.
Each module helps learners build confidence and independence to take the next step towards their EHCP targets.
Classes start with a six-week settling period.
Learners will build trust and routines to help them remove barriers to learning.
Once they are comfortable, the tutors will increase expectations and learning to support progress.
Lessons take place in small classrooms, with low-sensory breakout spaces available for quiet reflection.
The timetable is flexible and personalised. This helps them meet their EHCP targets through practical activities.
They will also attend vocational tasters to discover new passions and potential pathways.
Group activities will also be available to help learners build confidence in social scenarios and key communication skills.
Bath College recognises progress through small units of work for steady progression.
Learners then receive certificates to celebrate each milestone and the team hold celebration events at several stages in the year.
They will be assessed through observation during practical activities.
Tutors offer regular reviews with you, the parent or carer, so you have peace of mind about their progress.
Future Skills is a stepping stone course.
After they finish, they can progress to either Future Choices or Future Steps to Work.
Both courses develop vocational and employability skills in structured environments.
This way, learners bridge the gap between confidence and employability skills for the workplace.
Most learners study this course for free if they:
