Does the person you care for want to try vocational areas without commitment? If they are over 16 and have moderate learning difficulties, this course is ideal.
They will build confidence and employability skills through a pathway that connects foundational learning with the workplace.
Why should they study this course?
There are no official grade requirements. However, learners need an EHCP
to receive structured, personalised support.
Most learners work at an Entry Level 2 or 3 at this stage.
Typically, they have basic communication and independence skills.
Learners must attend a friendly admission process.
There is no formal test, so don't worry. This is a friendly chat to find out if the course is right for them.
The process at Bath College includes:
This programme reduces anxiety in a friendly space, where learners can build confidence to try different vocational areas.
The Future Skills modules build confidence and help learners work towards their personal EHCP targets.
They will start with a six-week settling period.
Here, learners will build trust and routine to reduce anxiety.
Once they're comfortable, tutors will slightly increase the workload. This will help them progress at their own pace.
All lessons take place in a small classroom.
Low-sensory breakout rooms give learners a chance to reflect and attend one-to-one sessions.
The flexible, personalised timetable helps learners meet their individual EHCP targets..
They will also attend vocational taster sessions.
This will help them try different experiences without pressure and discover a new passion.
Group activities also help learners develop essential communication skills for daily activities and the workplace.
At Bath College, tutors recognise progress through small units of work.
They receive certificates to celebrate each module milestone, with the team holding celebration events to recognise success.
Typically, they will be assessed through observation during practical activities.
And tutors will regularly update you, the parent or carer, on their progress.
This way, you have peace of mind about your young person's journey to confidence and independence.
After Future Skills, they can progress to the Future Choices or Future Steps to work courses and develop employability skills in a structured space.
This helps learners connect confidence, independence, and structure to prepare for real paid work.
Most learners study this course for free if they:
If they do not have an EHCP, funding will vary depending on age and learning needs.
