Frequently Asked Questions

Entry Requirements

They don't need qualifications, but they do need an EHCP, as the course helps learners who need structure and personalised support.

They can study without an EHCP if they:

  • Have SEND or learning barriers
  • Need support to transition to work
  • Thrive in small, highly supportive spaces

We will invite them to a friendly interview to check if the course is right for them. This is a safe, no-pressure process. Everybody is welcome.

At this meeting, they will meet tutors and complete a short skills assessment.

There are no formal tests or exams only gentle, supportive conversations and simple tasks.

Our tutors then review the learners EHCP and chat with you, the parent or carer, to understand the learner's needs and build a personalised learning environment.

This course will help them prepare for volunteer roles or supported work and take steady steps towards independence.

What topics are covered?

Each module will build life skills for potential employment and independence, taking the next step towards a confident future.

  • Skills for Employment
  • Exploring Vocational Options
  • Developing Independence for Work
  • Communication for the Workplace
  • Workplace Health & Safety
  • Problem Solving and Resilience
  • Preparing for Work Placements
  • Community Participation
  • Confidence and Self-Advocacy
  • Wellbeing and Emotional Regulation
  • Friendship Building and Social Communication
How will I be taught and assessed?

They will receive personalised support. Every lesson is calm and structured to help them feel safe and ready to learn.

And our quiet learning spaces and break-out areas have low sensory distractions to help them focus.

They will have access to interactive screens and technology to help them get the most out of their learning experience regardless of barriers.

All teaching takes place in a small classroom, so they get individual attention and progress through the modules.

And instead of written tasks, they will learn through practical scenarios and group work to build confidence outside of the classroom.

Visual aids and step-by-step instructions help us guide each learner through the modules at their own pace, so nobody feels left behind.

Plus, we measure success differently at Bath College.

We observe, use portfolios, and measure milestones linked to EHCP, not assessments, to help them build confidence and routine.

What can I do next?

This course builds independence in daily life and work. After they complete the course, they can:

  • Apply for work placements in retail, hospitality, or customer service
  • Take on more responsibilities in daily life
