Frequently Asked Questions

Entry Requirements

You need two GCSEs at a grade 2 or above, and GCSE English Language and GCSE Maths, with one grade 4 and the other grade 3+.

If you are a returning learner, you need a good level of English and Maths and a relevant level 1 qualification at Merit level.

We will consider a recommendation from your tutor.

What topics are covered?

You will learn and complete assessments in five key game design topics:

  • Investigation
  • Communication
  • Practical Skills
  • Development
  • Approach

And during these modules, you will develop technical skills in design narrative, gameplay, asset production, and publishing.

This will strengthen your creative skills for higher-level media qualifications.

How will I be taught and assessed?

You will attend lessons at the Bath College City Centre Campus.

To progress, you will take practical assessments and prove your skills through a mixture of presentations and individual projects.

And this allows you to prove your creativity through practical work, not essays.

It's a bonus if you have a laptop at home to study independently. If not, don't worry. The college has IT equipment for in-person lessons.

What can I do next?

If you complete the course, you open the door to many fulfilling opportunities:

  • A level 3 offering, like the Digital Software Design T-Level
  • Media or software apprenticeships
  • Full-time employment in entry-level roles
  • Similar level 3 offerings in creative subjects
Are there any additional costs?

IT equipment required for the course is provided by the College. However, it would be an advantage if learners have an appropriate device (PC/Mac, Laptop, Tablet) at home for independent study.

What else do I need to know?
What is the aim of the course?

The purpose of this course is to support learners to transition from Level 2 to an appropriate T-Level at Level 3 or an alternative Level 3 provision.

The course is designed to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to further education or training in related subject areas or to gain fundamental creative skills that are valued in other subject areas.
