This entry course is the perfect starting point if you want a job working with cars but need to develop your literacy and numeracy skills before progressing onto some of our more advanced automotive courses. It's all about practical learning, with practical lessons in our industry standard workshop and engaging theory sessions that promote digital skills as well as automotive knowledge.
You will explore the different vehicle systems and spend time removing, checking and installing vehicle components. The experience and knowledge gained during this course will enable you to apply for the Level 1 diploma in automotive maintenance.
GCSE grade 1 as a minimum. However, a candidate with a strong interest in automotive maintenance and a willingness to learn and progress in the subject will be seriously considered.
The course involves 50% practical workshop sessions and 50% theory based classroom sessions. There will be practical assessments supported by written reports, and your knowledge will be tested by written and computer-based tests. You will use an electronic portfolio to upload you work and collate achievement.
The experience and knowledge gained during this course will enable you to apply for the Level 1 diploma in automotive maintenance and further gain the skills required to work in the motor industry.
Students will purchase their own steel toe capped boots and overalls Course related trips may be organised for some programmes, details will be discussed at the start of the course.
The aim of this course is to provide you with the basic skills needed to drive forward your career in the motor industry including routine light vehicle maintenance, the removal and replacement of parts. Once you successfully complete your programme you will achieve a nationally recognised qualification.
