You will learn in the Construction Centre at the Somer Valley Campus in Radstock.

And the realistic bricklaying workshop helps you feel ready for your first job on-site.

Your time will be split 50/50 between practical and theory.

And if you don't have a GCSE grade 4 in Maths and English, we have classes to help you pass these exams.

What can I do next?

You can progress to the Level 2 Bricklaying course to take the next step in your career.

Once you complete Level 2, you will become a qualified bricklayer – ready for your first role.

And if you want to specialise, you can study an advanced bricklaying course to get a higher-paying job.

The tutors at Somer Valley Campus have exclusive links in the construction industry.

This means you could have access to potential job opportunities after you qualify.

But the career progression doesn't stop there.

Are there any additional costs?

Steel toe capped boots must be purchased before you start your course, students will not be allowed in the workshops without them.

What else do I need to know?
What is the aim of the course?

The aim of this course is to build up a skill set and theoretical knowledge in Bricklaying, as well as the wider construction industry as a whole. There are almost as many aspects of Bricklaying as there are reasons for a student to enrol upon this course. When you enrol on a Bricklaying course with Bath College, you will not only learn how to build standard constructions with Bricks and blocks, you will learn how to master a specific set of tools that can be turned to many other aspects of building, including decorative brickwork, stonework, hard landscaping and paving. As well as achieving an internationally recognised qualification in a time honoured trade, you will also have the opportunity to gain your CSCS card. A CSCS card provides proof to potential employers, that you have the appropriate training and qualifications for the job.

Fees and Funding

You need to buy steel-toe-capped boots before you start the course, and you will not be allowed in the workshops without them.
