How will I be taught and assessed?

This vocational qualification is taught through a mixture of practical and theory lessons, with further learning and understanding developed via directed self-study. Assessment consists of internally set coursework and assignments, in addition to externally set exams.

What can I do next?

Depending on where you start this pathway, you can progress to Level 2 or 3 of Plumbing or related courses. Outside of the College, you can move onto employment within the heating and plumbing sector, renewables sector or gas industry. There are also opportunities to go into related apprenticeships with greater focus workplace experience.

Learners must provide safety boots and ensure they have clothing that is appropriate for a workshop environment.

What is the aim of the course?

This qualification is for learners wanting to learn the basic skills and knowledge involved in plumbing. It does not require occupational evidence from the workplace so is suitable for learners who currently do not work within the plumbing industry and may wish to prepare for study at level 2. The qualification covers a range of basic tasks including various pipework methods, health & safety, plumbing science, and underpinning knowledge involved in plumbing.
