Entry Requirements

There are no grade entry requirements.

However, you will need to attend an interview and initial assessment.

This will help our tutors decide which level and delivery model is right for you.

Please remember that the course will only go ahead if we receive the right number of applications.

The college will invite you to an interview via email.

During the interview and assessment, you must mention which college campus you wish to study at.

What topics are covered?

The course will cover the following areas to help you build confidence and knowledge in basic maths skills:

  • Numbers
  • Ratio, Proportion, and Rates of Change
  • Shape and Measures
  • Probability
  • Statistics
How will I be taught and assessed?

You can learn in person at the:

  • City Centre Campus in Bath
  • Somer Valley Campus in Radstock
  • Twerton Learning Hub in Twerton, Bath

Or, if you cannot attend in person, we offer remote classes, where you will attend lectures in real time.

Because of this, you must attend each live lesson rather than studying alone at your own pace.

Online delivery is right for you if you have a good understanding of maths.

If you are starting your maths journey, you will learn best at our in-person classes, where you can receive extra support from our expert tutors.

Throughout the year, you have many chances to sit your Functional Skills exam.

This way, you can choose to sit your exam when you and your teacher feel ready to achieve.

What can I do next?

After you pass the Maths Function Skills Level 2, this is the equivalent of a GCSE grade 4.

What is the aim of the course?

This qualification is aimed at those who have struggled with maths in the past but now wish to work towards a formal qualification, either for work or personal reasons. Functional Skills Qualifications in Mathematics at Level 1 and Level 2 are for learners who want to develop understanding and skills in mathematics. The qualifications give learners the opportunity to demonstrate a sound grasp of the underpinning skills and basics of mathematical skills appropriate to the level, and apply mathematical thinking to solve simple problems in familiar situations.
