Entry Requirements

There are no grade entry requirements. You will attend an interview with our tutors to decide if the course is the right step for you.

Please remember that the course will only go ahead if we receive the right number of applications.

The college will invite you to an interview and assessment via email.

During the interview, you must mention which college campus you wish to study at.

If you are not ready for GCSE Maths, our tutors may recommend Maths Functional Skills Level 2.

What topics are covered?

The course will cover basic Maths topics to help you achieve a Grade 4 or above:

  • Numbers
  • Algebra
  • Ration, Proportion, and Rates of Change
  • Geometry and Measures
  • Probability
  • Statistics
How will I be taught and assessed?

You can either learn in person or remotely.

If you learn in person, you will attend our evening classes at either the Somer Valley Campus in Radstock or our Bath City Centre Campus.

We recommend studying in person if you are starting your Maths GCSE journey to get extra support from our expert tutors.

You will sit your GCSE Maths exam in May and June.

To help you prepare, you will complete mock exams so that you feel ready to pass the real exam with confidence.

What can I do next?

This qualification will allow you to progress towards your goals.

After you pass your GCSE Maths exam, you can progress to a higher-level qualification or a job that requires a Grade 4 or above in Maths.

Are there any additional costs?

GCSE and FS maths are FREE at the point of entry until you achieve a Grade 4 or C. If you already hold a Grade 4 or Grade C at GCSE, then a course fee will be incurred.

What is the aim of the course?

To provide a strong foundation for further academic and vocational study and for employment, to give students the appropriate mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding to help them progress to a full range of courses in further and higher education. This includes Level 3 mathematics courses as well as Level 3 and undergraduate courses in other disciplines such as biology, geography and psychology, where the understanding and application of mathematics is crucial
