Entry Requirements

This course is for adults aged 18 and over.

You don't need any accounting or bookkeeping knowledge, so this course is the ideal first step towards your accounting career goals.

A basic level of English and Maths will help you succeed.

We will invite you to an interview. This may include an assessment to see if the course is right for you. Here, you can also ask any questions about the qualification.

What topics are covered?

This course has one unit. Each topic will help you develop the basic skills needed for further AAT qualifications or entry-level bookkeeping roles.

  • Understand the need to produce timely and accurate work.
  • Learn how to spot assets, income, and expenses.
  • Develop knowledge of the dual effect of financial transactions.
  • Process customer and supplier transactions, receipts, and payments.
  • Prepare business documents, like invoices and credit notes.
  • Learn the benefits and risks of using accounting software to complete bookkeeping tasks.
How will I be taught and assessed?

You'll learn face-to-face with an expert tutor in the classroom to receive personal feedback and build confidence, so you feel ready for your assessment.

There is an assessment at the end of the course. It will take place on a computer at the Bath City Centre Campus.

If you can't travel to campus to sit your exam, you'll need to arrange this with a different venue and pay an extra fee. This gives you control over how you gain your qualification.

What can I do next?

This course gives you the skills and knowledge to study the Level 2 Certificate in Accounting or Bookkeeping to progress towards advanced career opportunities.

You will need to register for AAT student membership to study this qualification.

To avoid disappointment, please make sure you apply for your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course.

What is the aim of the course?

You will gain an AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping.

Fees and Funding

The full course cost is 530. If the course is co-funded, the course cost is 270.

The course can be fully funded if you:

  • Earn less than 25,700
  • Are unemployed
