The IMI Level 1 Award in Vehicle Maintenance provides an introduction to the essential knowledge, understanding, and practical skills needed for a career in automotive maintenance and repair. It is ideal for individuals with a keen interest in the automotive sector, aiming to progress into employment within this industry. The course is structured to be practical, engaging, and motivating, supporting learners in acquiring the basic skills and knowledge demanded by employers in the automotive maintenance and repair sector. Upon completion, learners can pursue further studies in automotive maintenance and repair, engineering subjects, or begin a career as a trainee technician.
This vocational qualification is designed with a practical approach to
assessment, incorporating visual questioning techniques to engage and stimulate
learners. This qualification offers flexibility in unit selection, allowing
learners to tailor their studies to the areas they wish to develop their
knowledge and skills.
You do not need any prior Light Vehicle Maintenance knowledge to enrol in this course. However, for the best chance of success, we recommend that you begin your studies with a good standard of English and Maths. All applicants will be invited to an interview with the course tutor which may include an initial assessment to ensure the qualification is appropriate for them. It will also be the opportunity to ask any specific questions you might have about the programme.

The assessments for this qualification have a practical focus and combine various assessment methods, in order to suit the subject and levels of units contained within it. This includes an online test and practical tasks.
This Award is ideal for learners aiming to enter the retail motor vehicle industry or progress to complete the full IMI Level 1 Diploma in Automotive Maintenance or an Apprenticeship in Autocare Technician Level 2.
