This City & Guilds Skills for Working Life course has been carefully designed to develop the social, practical and employability skills necessary to successfully embark on a career in animal care. This is an introductory course for those with a genuine interest in Animal Care but have not achieved maths and English at GCSE/are currently working at Entry level, or feel a more supported course would benefit them before joining Level 1. It provides a gentle introduction to work with animals, under the guidance of our experienced, dedicated team.

What topics are covered?
How will I be taught and assessed?

The teaching of this course is mainly based in our purpose built animal centre using demonstrations and a hands-on approach to learning that develops your practical animal care skills alongside employability skills. Industry experience days also form part of this course to further develop your understanding of working within the animal care sector. All units are assessed practically with verbal knowledge checks. The assessments take place during normal work routines and are carried out by our qualified, experienced teaching team.

What can I do next?

Successful completion of the Entry 3 Certificate in Skills for Working Life Landbased (Animals) course opens opportunities for students to progress through our course offer starting their journey with the Level 1 Certificate in Animal Care. Alternatively, students may gain supported employment in the animal care industry.

Are there any additional costs?

Students need to purchase steel toe capped boots and navy overalls for their practical lessons and need to pay a 10 refundable deposit for a locker. Some course related trips may incur a cost, where this is the case details will be sent home prior to the event.
