Inclusion at Bath College

Our commitment to inclusion

At Bath College, we are committed to creating an inclusive learning environment in which every learner feels valued, supported and able to achieve their potential.

Our approach recognises that learners have different starting points, experiences, strengths and needs. We aim to remove barriers to learning and participation through high-quality teaching, early identification of need, appropriate support and personalised pathways that enable learners to succeed and progress.

Inclusion is a whole-college responsibility, embedded within our leadership, curriculum planning, teaching practices and learner support arrangements.

‍

Our approach to inclusive education

We adopt a graduated approach to inclusion, providing universal support for all learners, targeted interventions where additional needs are identified, and specialist support where required.

This includes:

  • Understanding learners' starting points, strengths and individual needs.
  • Providing high-quality, adaptive teaching across all curriculum areas.
  • Identifying barriers to learning and participation at the earliest opportunity.
  • Providing targeted and specialist support where appropriate.
  • Developing staff expertise in SEND, neurodiversity and trauma-informed practice.
  • Working collaboratively with learners, families, local authorities and specialist services.
  • Supporting learners to achieve their qualifications, develop independence and progress towards employment, further learning and adulthood.

Inclusive Mainstream Fund (IMF)

The Inclusive Mainstream Fund provides additional government funding to strengthen inclusive education for young people aged 16 to 19, including eligible learners up to age 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan.

Bath College is using this funding to build on its existing inclusive practices, strengthen the capacity of curriculum teams to meet diverse learning needs, and improve access, participation and outcomes.

Our priorities include strengthening leadership and coordination of inclusion, developing more flexible and personalised learning pathways, and investing in staff development and specialist expertise.

These priorities support our ambition to ensure that learners receive the right support at the right time, with inclusion embedded in everyday teaching and learning.

Further information about our planned use of IMF funding is included in the College's Accountability Statement.

‍

Monitoring our impact

We are committed to evaluating the effectiveness of our inclusive approach and making improvements based on evidence and learner experience.

We monitor participation, attendance, retention, achievement, progression and learner feedback, including differences in outcomes between learner groups.

Our findings inform curriculum development, staff training, support arrangements and future investment priorities.
