These courses are predominantly for 16-19 year olds and have different requirements depending on level. To study at Level 2, 4 GCSEs are required at grade 3 or above to include English Language and maths.
You will combine classroom learning with practical sessions, and be assessed through a theory and practical exam at the end of the year of study. You can expect coursework, presentations, practice cookery tests, and written exams.
Depending on how far you take your studies, you could leave the programme and gain employment at various levels in the industry. If you leave at Level 2 you could enter work as a commis chef, or at Level 3 as a chef de partie. It is also possible to transition onto an apprenticeship at various levels, allowing you to continue your studies while also getting paid.
This practical, work-related course will provide you with the skills to work as a professional chef in the hospitality industry. It covers a range of food preparation techniques and the principles of kitchen management and food safety. On successfully completing the course, you will achieve a nationally recognised qualification at the appropriate level.
