This course is for those who have a strong interest in moving into the entertainment industry, looking to access the worlds of theatre, film and television. Regular sessions with industry professionals in movement, voice, technical theatre, design, fitness, stage and screen acting, and directing, combined with structured mentoring and career planning, will allow you to specialise in areas of theatre making and production craft.
Five GCSEs at C/4 or above including English Language, or UAL/BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts at Merit Level. All applicants are required to audition.
A studio fee of 75 will be required at the beginning of the course to cover show trips and extra-curricular experiences. This will be discussed in further detail at the beginning of your course and bursary support is available.
You will have the opportunity to learn about what it takes to be an actor, the key aspects of performance such as teamwork and communication. You will explore different performance styles and how to use research and reflection to improve your work, as well as solo and group performance material, the nature of design, voice and movement, technical theatre and demonstrate how to embed research within your practical work. Throughout the year you will work as a small performance company working in the three areas to develop live and recorded performance work. Those who successfully complete their programme will achieve a nationally recognised qualification at the appropriate level.
This highly practical course involves working in workshop, studio and classroom settings. You will study in class, groups and individually and you will also be expected to work independently outside of College hours. You will create practical work individually and in small groups for performance, learn set material, take notes during lecture-based sessions and complete written assignments. Your learning is enhanced by professional technicians, directors, choreographers, musical directors and set designers who will work alongside you. You will develop work both independently and as a member of a team.Alongside exploring existing theatrical pieces, you will be expected to take part in writing, producing and the performance of original work that engages and challenges both you as an actor and the audience. Assessment is continuous throughout the year and in many different forms focusing on input and ideas throughout the creative process leading to performance. For Example: Vlogs, written journals, reflections, research discussions, creative books and performances.
