Course Overview

Catering and hospitality level 1 is a practical, work-related course which will provide you with a detailed overview of working in the Catering and Hospitality industry, cooking and food and drink service. The course covers the required skills and knowledge for working in the Hospitality and Catering industry. It is designed to meet the needs of learners who want to work in the industry and will provide learners with the basic skills in varied areas before they need focus on a specific career route. Units include customer service, food preparation, healthy eating and food safety.

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is most suited for people aged 16-18 who are just starting (out on their) vocational learning.

What are the entry requirements?

  • Four GCSEs at grade G/1 or above, including English and Maths
  • Interest in the Catering and Hospitality sector as a job.
  • Ability to work in a team.

Level 1 Certificate in Catering and Hospitality

City and Guilds

How will I learn?

Your will be learning in classroom and in work-based environment.

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments and short answer questions assignments

What can I do after this course?

    • Move onto Level 1 Diploma
    • Gain employment within the catering and hospitality industry

Uniform, knives, books, padlocks and stationery (discussed at interview).

You will gain experience in our on-site state-of-the-art kitchens and restaurant facilities such as The Shrubbery Restaurant and Bistro.

Where will I need to go on my first day?

On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Roper Building at City Centre Campus.

What else do I need to know?

You will need to comply with the following policies that are issued at enrolment:

  • Dress code
  • Code of conduct
  • Locker policy
  • Scissor / knife policy

A basic stationery pack will be issued to enrolled students.
