Paint Effects for the Home

Our Paint Effects for the Home course introduces you to different decorative finishing techniques. Each week will focus on visiting a different technique and include essential knowledge on manipulating materials and using tools. These basic paint effects can be used on different surfaces including furniture and walls. There will be a strong focus on experimentation and you will be able to complete some mini projects to take home.

What topics are covered?

Specialist brushes and tools, basic colour theory, preparing surfaces, pastes and powders, plaster mouldings, gilding, marbling effects, dragging and stippling, glazes, wood graining, chalk paint, stencils and decoupage, distressing, varnishing, protecting the painted surface.

Who is the course aimed at?

Suitable for beginners with no prior knowledge of paint effects necessary and for those who have a specific project in mind or a general interest in the decorative arts.

How will I learn?

In a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Techniques will be demonstrated, you will be encouraged to ask questions and experiment.

Are there any additional costs?

Small frames will be available to buy if you want to frame any of your work.

Where will I need to go on my first day?

On your first day, please report to the Reception in Roper Building.

What do I need to bring?

Please wear clothes suitable to paint in.

What else do I need to know?

To avoid disappointment, please make sure you enrol on your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course. If a course is cancelled, you will be informed and your course fees refunded in full. Please see Terms and Conditions of Enrolment.
