Entry Requirements

You need 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including Maths and English.

After you apply, you will attend an interview to see if the course is right for you.

If the course isn't right for you at this stage, our tutors recommend the Art, Design & Media Level 1 course.

What topics are covered?

The following modules help you feel confident with technical tools and turn your ideas into real projects:

  • Typography
  • Layout
  • Shape and colour
  • Traditional photography
  • Digital and film camera techniques
  • Basic studio skills
  • Research artists and designers
How will I be taught and assessed?

The work is assessed through short projects which are course work based. Students will work in sketchbooks and create slide presentations to build a portfolio of work. A final major project will be set at the end of the year, this is a ten-week exam project where students choose a more personal theme to show and develop previously learnt skills.

You will learn at the City Centre Campus in Bath.

The campus offers the latest equipment, including workshop studios, darkrooms, Macs and PCs, and printmaking facilities to build the skills employers want.

Our tutors have experience or still work in photography and graphic design, so you can learn from people who know the industry.

For your exams, you will create short coursework projects, including sketchbooks and PowerPoint presentations.

And your final project at the end of the year is a 10-week exam where you choose a personal theme to flex your creativity and bring your ideas to life.

Each project is another chance to add to your portfolio to impress employers or a university.

What can I do next?

You can progress onto Level 3 Art and Design, Photography, Fashion and Textiles, Graphic Design or Media Courses.Some students choose to progress onto Level 3 courses, find local apprenticeships or placements through job search.

What is the aim of the course?

The photography and graphics course is designed to help you gain confidence, establish a solid foundation of knowledge and develop your core creative skills

There are also no extra costs throughout the course. All the equipment is free to use at the college.
