You need 4 GCSES at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English Language.

After you apply, you will attend an interview to see if the course is right for you.

If the course isn't right for you, our tutors recommend the Photography and Graphic Design Level 2 or Art, Design & Media Level 1.

How will I be taught and assessed?

You will learn at the City Centre Campus in Bath.

Classes are guided by our expert tutors in workshops, and you will also have the chance to research and visit galleries.

The campus is home to advanced photography facilities, like the darkroom and Macs and PCs with Adobe Photoshop.

This means you learn to use equipment for university or your first creative role.

Our tutors encourage experimentation and problem-solving, so you can improve in a true creative space.

They also give demonstrations to help you understand professional photography techniques.

You will be assessed through tutorials, peer reviews, and assignments.

The assignment is your final unit.

At the end of the course, you will have a strong portfolio of work to help you achieve a place at university or secure your first professional creative role.

And you can even progress to university to study a creative course.

Many previous Bath College photography students progressed to the University of the Arts London (UAL), Bath Spa University, and Plymouth College of Arts.

Are there any additional costs?

Materials – While we aim to provide all the basic material, you may also need to get some equipment which is specific to your own creative practice. Study Trips – the cost of any study trips to locations either inside or outside the UK are additional to any enrolment fees and you will be notified of them well in advance. If you cannot afford any of the additional cost, you may be eligible for a bursary or financial help through the learner support fund.

What is the aim of the course?

Level 3 Photography at Bath College has been designed to help you gain confidence, establish a solid foundation of knowledge, and develop your core creative skills. In addition to a portfolio of work, on successful completion you will be awarded a nationally recognised qualification, issued by University of the Arts London (UAL).

Fees and Funding

The college provides basic materials for the course.

However, you may need some equipment to finish your own creative projects.

Study trips will cost extra, but you will be told about them ahead of time.
