Botanical Illustration – Part 2
Learn how to illustrate directly from nature. This course builds on the skills and techniques introduced in Botanical Illustration Part 1 . Using seasonal plants, flowers and fruit, this course will explore the stages of producing a botanical illustration from research and initial drawings to composition ideas, watercolour techniques and finishing touches. If you have not completed Part 1, some previous observational drawing and watercolour experience would be useful.
What topics are covered?
The stages used to produce a comprehensive botanical watercolour study. How to research and record the plant ready for painting. Colour mixing and matching. Do’s and don’ts of composing a botanical study. Putting together a final botanical painting.
Who is the course aimed at?
Anyone with an interest in the subject and if you have not completed Part 1, some previous observational drawing and watercolour experience would be useful.
Who will be my tutor?
Julia Trickey is an award winning botanical artist http://www.juliatrickey.co.uk. Exhibiting regularly, Julia has been awarded four RHS gold medals amongst many other awards.
How will I learn?
Sessions will include tutor demonstrations, group discussion, study of contemporary botanical art and artists, as well as one-to-one tuition and plenty of time for practical application.

Subject matter can be provided but you may prefer to bring your own plant, fruit or flowers.

Where will I need to go on my first day?On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Roper Building at City Centre Campus.
What do I need to bring?
Any basic drawing or watercolour equipment would be useful. The tutor can advise you further at the first class.
What else do I need to know?To avoid disappointment, please make sure you enrol on your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course. If a course is cancelled, you will be informed and your course fees refunded in full.
