Botanical Illustration – Part 3

Capture the beauty and detail of nature in watercolour. Develop observational drawing and watercolour skills to create accurate plant portraits of seasonal plants, fruit and flowers. Reference to contemporary botanical artists and some basic botany will further enhance understanding of this absorbing art form.

What topics are covered?

This course will look at ways to develop accurate observation skills, the use of appropriate techniques in different media, choosing a suitable botanical subject and specimen, developing a project from initial drawing to final composition. We will also look at the work of contemporary botanical artists.

Who is the course aimed at?

You will need some observational drawing and watercolour experience if you have not completed Parts 1 and 2.

Who will be my tutor?

Julia Trickey is an award winning botanical artist http://www.juliatrickey.co.uk. Exhibiting regularly, Julia has been awarded four RHS gold medals amongst many other awards.

How will I learn?

Sessions will include tutor demonstrations, group discussion, study of contemporary botanical art and artists, as well as one-to-one tuition and plenty of time for practical application.

Are there any additional costs?

Subject matter can be provided but you may prefer to bring your own plant, fruit or flowers.

Where will I need to go on my first day?

On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Roper Building at City Centre Campus.

What do I need to bring?

Any basic drawing or watercolour equipment would be useful. The tutor can advise you further at the first class.

What else do I need to know?

To avoid disappointment, please make sure you enrol on your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course. If a course is cancelled, you will be informed and your course fees refunded in full. Please see Terms and Conditions of Enrolment.

The course will not run on bank holidays or during half term. Please check the term dates.
