You will not find a better ceramics course than this!
Sally is a superb tutor who allows you to work on your own and in your own way but it’s always on hand to help and advise if needed.
As a relative beginner to ceramics I spent my first term being shown all the different technique’s of making and decorating items as well as an introduction to throwing. This was invaluable as it showed me what style was right for me and I then spent my second term experimenting and honing my own ideas.
Yes there is limited space for your pieces to be stored, and yes you have to wait sometime two weeks for your pieces to be fired but unless you own your own studio and kiln this will be the same for any class’s The fact that there is unlimited tools, clays and glazes for you to use means you can always craft another masterpiece while you wait.
    I love it!

Well run, nice tutor and relaxed atmosphere. Only downsides are that there’s a bit of a lack of storage space in the ceramics rooms (I guess they’re a victim of their own success and popularity!) and that general organisation at the start of the course was a bit lacking (took a couple of weeks to get ID cards as the supply had run out – given how far in advance registration is opened, you’d think this could be planned for).

Very enthusiastic tutor but did not force your to make anything you might not wanted to have completed – already a ceramic student so did not need to start from the beginning but was helped by learning new techniques. The equipment was adequate and all the tools were there to complete the project you wanted to begin. Only drawback from my point of view would be for the course to begin slightly later say 6.30 as getting into Bath can take 45 minutes.

The course is amazing and I loved learning everything that I did. The course was initially quite slow but became more exciting towards the end. Unfortunately by the time I knew that I would like to do a second term, all of the places has been booked and so I couldn’t sign up for a second term. The demand for the course is clear and it’s a big shame that more availability isn’t available.

Excellent course. Excellent tutors. Really good fun However, the time from making something to getting it back out of kilns is far too long, due to having no Technical Assistant.

  37. email@example.com

    5 out of 5

Julia is an excellent tutor, giving beginners the basic toolkit they need to make a range of things and giving students the space to be individually but being on hand to answer questions and deal with technical issues. Considering the amount of work that gets made she and the team do well to get everything fired though would definitely benefit from newer and more reliable kilns.

I HAVE ATTENDED OTHER CERAMICS COURSES BEFORE – THOUGHT THE TEACHER WAS EXCELLENT AND THE AMOUNT OF CLAY, GLAZES, AND EQUIPMENT FANTASTIC. ONLY DRAWBACK WAS HAVING TO WAIT FOR PIECES TO BE FIRED BUT THINK THAT MAY BE DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF CLASSES THAT BATH PUTS ON. ALSO BECAUSE OF THIS REASON THE LAST TWO LESSONS WERE DIFFICULT TO WORK OUT HOW YOU WERE GOING TO GET THINGS FINISHED. PERHAPS AN EVENING NEEDS TO BE SET ASIDE FOR STUDENTS TO COLLECT FINISHED WORK AFTER THE COURSES FINISHES AND PIECES ARE FIRED.

Enjoyed the course. Materials were freely available. Tutor was available to help when required. I feel it would be useful to have more access to higher workbenches. Two of us required this but we were in the way of other students.

Julia the teacher had a great knowledge of the medium and taught us a wide range of techniques but also gave us the time to bring our own ideas to the classes. It can not be easy for one teacher to be available to a room full of students all at different stages using different techniques, it is to her credit that she managed her workload so well. The other students were a nice group of people to be with and the materials and equipment everything I needed.
