How will I learn?

As this is an academic qualification leading to a technician status, the majority of the programme is delivered in a classroom environment. However, practical surveying work, design work and site visits will be undertaken as part of the course.

At the beginning of your course, you will be given a brief from your client, setting out the requirements for a building they require. You will undertake the design of that building and all the administrative tasks involved with its construction, including developing the design, estimating the cost of the work, and managing the health and safety on site. You will also organise applications for building control and planning consent and manage all the resources required to construct the actual building.

What hours will I be in college?

Usually four days per week of lectures, tutorials and seminars, but you will be expected to allow additional time for personal study.

How will I be assessed?

Your work and progress will be continuously assessed by a range of methods, including assignments, projects, case studies and practical exercises. Timed assessments may be used occasionally as part of the programme.

What can I do after this course?

The 90 Credit Diploma is a one year full-time course, if this is completed successfully it can allow you to return the following year to complete the Extended Diploma qualification.
