This programme offers you the opportunity to develop pattern cutting skills for creating garments. You will be fully supported and guided by industry trained professionals in our fashion and clothing workshop.
What topics are covered?
Each term we look at different parts of the body and make blocks (first garment) to fit this part of the body. Autumn Term is a skirt. Spring Term is a simple bodice. Summer Term is a dependent of the above. Every term we draft a first pattern (Block) to fit your body and how to make this into a Toile (first garment). You will then learn how to move parts around to design different styles of garment.

How will I learn?
For the first few weeks you will be shown how to draft your block (first garment) and how to construct these into a pattern and then into a toile. You will be shown step by step how this toile is constructed.
Are there any additional costs?
For your first template the calico is provided. You will be required to supply the fabric of your choice.

Where will I need to go on my first day?On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Roper Building at City Centre Campus.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring a sewing tool kit comprising the following:- Paper scissors; Fabric scissors; 4H pencil; Rubber; White & black thread; Hand sewing needle; Pencil sharpener; Metric Ruler; Metric tape measure; Calculator. In order to fit your block (first draft of garment) please wear suitable clothing such as leggings and a vest top.
What else do I need to know?
Pattern cutting combines creative & technical skills so an understanding of basic maths is essential. Basic hand sewing & sewing machine skills are required. All measurements are in Metric. Measuring & fitting will be done in pairs.
Calico and paper are provided.
When you have been enrolled on your course you will receive a confirmation email containing information about where to go, campus information, parking and the Student Code of Conduct. This email will be sent to the email address provided in the online booking.You will be required to wear a photographic ID badge at all times when in College. Please email a passport style photograph stating your full name and course title in the subject line to StudentID@bathcollege.ac.uk
To avoid disappointment, please make sure you enrol on your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course. If a course is cancelled, you will be informed and your course fees refunded in full. Please see Terms and Conditions of Enrolment.The course will not run on bank holidays or during half term. Please check the term dates.
Cancelling your enrolment

Refunds will not be issued if a learner is unable to attend due to a change of mind including concerns about Covid-19, accommodation, domestic circumstances, work commitments or if the College requires a learner to leave for reasons of conduct.
