Hairdressing Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship

Course Overview

This Apprenticeship covers all the basics of hairdressing. As a hairdressing apprentice, you’ll act as a Salon Assistant, working alongside senior staff while training to become a Junior Stylist. Duties are likely to include booking appointments, shampooing, conditioning, drying and styling hair, and mixing and applying hair colouring. You’ll study hairdressing topics such as carrying out consultations, cutting, colouring, styling, setting and dressing, perming and the effects of chemicals on hair and skin.

This course is suitable for anyone wishing to develop their skills in this vocational area.

What are the entry requirements?

Minimum of ‘D’ grade in GCSE English and Maths or Functional Skills Level.

 

What qualifications will I gain?

To achieve a full award, candidates must complete:

Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
Functional Skills at level 1 in English and maths
Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
Functional Skills at level 2 in English and maths

All apprentices must also complete:

Employment Responsibilities and Rights
Personal learning and thinking skills

How will I learn?

Assessment in the workplace with college day release plus exams and projects.

 

How will I be assessed?

Assessment of the NVQ is carried out in the workplace and at college and the assessor will help you to identify any gaps through exercises and activities set between assessment visits.

The functional skills elements will be assessed in college with a tutor.

What can I do after this course?

Successful candidates can progress to the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.

This course is based at the City Centre Campus.

The course duration is 16 – 24 months.
