International Business Extended Diploma Level 3
This International Business Extended Diploma Level 3 course will open up the diverse world of business, allowing you to develop crucial skills required by companies worldwide. You will study subjects such as Developing a Marketing Campaign, Business Finance and Managing an Event to provide variety in your knowledge base. The course ensures you apply practical business and work skills, while understanding the dynamics of how the business world operates. You will be assessed through exams, assignments and projects, ensuring the course provides insight on how to become an essential part of in the business world.
You will also have the opportunity to choose between 3 electives to enable you to develop chosen specialist skills in your first and 2nd year. These electives will form a further part of your timetable to compliment your studies. When you enrol, you will be asked to select one of the foilowing
- Option 1 Young Enterprise- The opportunity to work in groups to work with industry mentors to design and bring a product to market by way of a national competition.
- Option 2- Certificate in Law.
- Option 3- AAT Level 2 in Book Keeping
(please note, if retaking GCSE this will take be done in replacement of an elective)
What topics are covered?
During this course you will explore the many aspects of international and domestically based business.
This course is set up over two years and will push you both practically and academically. In the first year, you will study for the BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma. On successfully completing year one, you can then continue with the second year and complete the Extended Diploma in Business equivalent to three A-levels.
Among the 18 units over the two years, you will actively engage with local and international businesses and will cover topics such as:
- international business
- marketing and
- event management
You will collaborate with other students and staff outside of your own subject areas and will have the opportunity to apply for a short work placement abroad.

Who is the course aimed at?
This course is most suited for people aged 16-18 and may also meet the needs of mature students up to 21 years.
What are the entry requirements?
Four full GCSE’s at grades C/4 or above, including English and maths; or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma with a Merit profile in a related subject; or equivalent qualifications.
What qualifications will I gain?
BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma on completion of the first year.
Extended Diploma in Business (equivalent to three A-levels) on completion of the second year.

How will I learn?
You will take part in informative and challenging interactive sessions with lecturers and external organisations, whereby you will be encouraged to develop independent research skills to support you in achieving your targets in each unit.
You will engage with local companies on live assessment briefs, challenging you to find solutions to the genuine concerns of local businesses.
Your learning will be classroom and coursework based, with projects, presentations, visits, guest speakers, working both individually and in small groups. You will develop key vocational skills.
What hours will I be in college?
Approximately 14-15 hours per week. You should be prepared to work outside of timetabled hours.
How will I be assessed?
All of the work on the Level 3 Business programme is assessed through coursework and there are no exams. You will be expected to submit evidence in a variety of ways including presentations, role plays, discussions and reports to show your understanding of the units on the programme.
What can I do after this course?
In the first year you will attain a Level 3 Foundation Diploma. On successfully completing the first year, you can progress onto the second year and gain the Extended Diploma in Business equivalent to three A-levels.
On successfully completing the second year of this course you can:
- Progress onto the Bath Business School HND programme and then to an Honours degree course
- Join one of our professional courses suited to your abilities and career path
- Progress onto a university (merit or distinction profile required)
- Gain employment and start your professional career
- Start an apprenticeship via our Services to Business team

What funding is available?
If you are aged 24 or over you may be eligible to apply for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to cover your tuition fees.
If you are aged 19 or over you may be eligible to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learning Loan to cover your tuition fees.

Where will I need to go on my first day?On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Roper Building at City Centre Campus.
What else do I need to know?
If you would like to study a modern foreign language on a part-time basis, this would benefit you when seeking employment at the end of your programme of study.
The BTEC Extended Diploma in International Business is the first two years of your business journey. The qualification is equivalent up to the 420 UCAS points required for entry into year one of a degree programme at many British universities.
