Painting & Decorating Level 2 Technical Certificate
This construction industry recognised qualification will help you become a qualified painter and decorator. You will study a range of units which include building methods, construction technology, equipment, communication skills and health and safety. This course is aimed at mature students, wishing to make a career change.
What topics are covered?
This course includes a range of theoretical units including Health and safety and Building methods and construction technology. Plus the following practical based units:
- Erecting and Dismantling. Access Equipment and Working Platforms.
- Preparing Surfaces for Decoration.
- Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller.
- Applying and Creating Colour.
- Producing Specialist Decorative Finishes.
- Applying Foundation and Plain Papers.
Who is the course aimed at?
This course is aimed at mature students wishing to make a career change. Level 2 is ideal if you have some knowledge and basic skills in Painting and Decorating – probably from a role where you work under supervision. You want recognition for your skills, giving you the chance to take on more responsibility.
What qualifications will I gain?
You will gain a Level 2 technical certificate in Painting and Decorating.

How will I learn?
As a part time learner you have the opportunity to learn at your work pace. Two days per week at college you will cover theory in the classroom (40%) and practical skills in our workshops (60%).
How will I be assessed?
You will have theory based End Unit tests and practical assessments throughout your training to attain the Painting and Decorating Diploma at level 2.
What can I do after this course?
On completion, you will be competent to work as a Painter and Decorator, either as a self-employed individual or employed by a company. You could also progress onto the Level 3 Painting and Decorating course.

This level 2 Technical Certificate in Painting and Decorating costs £3045.

Depending on your age and circumstances some fees may apply, however these can be discussed on an individual basis.

Where will I need to go on my first day?On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Cam Building at Somer Valley Campus.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring, White Bib and Brace painters overalls or painters trousers as well as Safety footwear.
What else do I need to know?To avoid disappointment, please make sure you apply for your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course. If a course is cancelled, you will be informed and your course fees refunded in full. The course will not run on bank holidays or during half term. Please check here for term dates.
The first 6 weeks of the course is probationary, your enrolment on to the level 2 is based upon your performance and ability to pass the whole course. If there are any difficulties that you encounter during the year that would or could hamper your ability to pass the course other options are available; for example, enrolment onto the level 1 painting and decorating course or additional in class support.
