Pattern Cutting – Beginners – Holiday Workshop
This Pattern Cutting Holiday Workshop offers learners the opportunity to develop pattern cutting skills for creating garments. You will learn the technical skills needed to create patterns for garment construction. This short course is ideal for beginners as you will be fully supported and guided by industry trained professionals in our state-of-the-art fashion and clothing workshops, before progressing on to more advanced techniques and processes. Standard blocks are used, if you are interested in cutting blocks to your size then this can be supported in our Creative Fashion evening classes.
What topics are covered?
You will be using a variety of small scale blocks to introduce you to pattern cutting techniques for garment construction. Topics include: Understanding dart manipulation on bodice and skirt blocks; Creating a series of small patterns that are then made in calico; How to add details such as collars & pockets; Developing skills to work on full size blocks and making toiles up in calico.
Who is the course aimed at?
Suitable for beginners and those with some experience looking to refresh their knowledge and skills. A knowledge of using a sewing machine is useful but not essential.

Practical demonstrations, individual tuition and hands on practice. There will be some peer group discussion.

Where will I need to go on my first day?On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Roper Building at City Centre Campus.
What do I need to bring?
H pencil; Pencil sharpener; Long ruler (18in/45cm preferred); Pattern curve (if you have one); Calculator; Paper & fabric scissors; Sewing pins; Tape measure; Notebook & pen.
What else do I need to know?
Please wear shoes covering your toes as you will be in a workshop environment.
When you have been enrolled on your course you will receive a confirmation email containing information about where to go, campus information, parking and the Student Code of Conduct. This email will be sent to the email address provided in the online booking.You will be required to wear a photographic ID badge at all times when in College. Please email a passport style photograph stating your full name and course title in the subject line to StudentID@bathcollege.ac.uk
To avoid disappointment, please make sure you enrol on your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course. If a course is cancelled, you will be informed and your course fees refunded in full. Please see Terms and Conditions of Enrolment.The course will not run on bank holidays or during half term. Please check the term dates.
Cancelling your enrolment

Refunds will not be issued if a learner is unable to attend due to a change of mind including concerns about Covid-19, accommodation, domestic circumstances, work commitments or if the College requires a learner to leave for reasons of conduct.
