This Portraiture course explores your personal responses to the representation of your sitter. Working from a life model your studies will be based on your observations from short and long poses. Experiment and develop your drawing and painting skills. Suitable for beginners and all levels of ability.
What topics are covered?
Understanding proportion; Drawing & painting techniques and approaches; Development of observational awareness; Developing and understanding of shape and form; Materials and their uses – paint, charcoal, ink, graphite, pastels.

All levels of ability are welcome.
Who will be my tutor?
Jackie Harding. “My lifetime passion for drawing and painting began when I was a child. I attended Junior Art School in Sheffield from the age of 11, going on to Sheffield College of Art. I finished my art education at the Slade School of Fine Art in the 1960s, where I was lucky enough to have Frank Auerbach as my personal tutor.” Since then I have continuously taught Painting and Drawing part-time, whilst pursuing my career as an exhibiting painter.
Over these many years I still retain my enthusiasm in passing on all the knowledge I have accumulated to share with my students in this never ending journey of study.
How will I learn?
Individual guidance is given through the development of observational and practical skills; Peer reviews; Study of painters/artists past & present.
Where will I need to go on my first day?On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Roper Building at City Centre Campus.
What else do I need to know?When you have been enrolled on your course you will receive a confirmation email containing information about where to go, campus information, parking and the Student Code of Conduct. This email will be sent to the email address provided in the online booking.You will be required to wear a photographic ID badge at all times when in College. Please email a passport style photograph stating your full name and course title in the subject line to StudentID@bathcollege.ac.uk
To avoid disappointment, please make sure you enrol on your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course. If a course is cancelled, you will be informed and your course fees refunded in full. Please see Terms and Conditions of Enrolment.The course will not run on bank holidays or during half term. Please check the term dates.

Refunds will not be issued if a learner is unable to attend due to a change of mind including concerns about Covid-19, accommodation, domestic circumstances, work commitments or if the College requires a learner to leave for reasons of conduct.
