Sculpture

This course provides an opportunity to explore a broad range of sculptural concepts and processes in line with your level of experience and expertise. The course will help you to build a visual vocabulary. You will have the opportunity to undertake thematic projects, in consultation with your lecturer. The programme will cover the three categories of ‘making’ e.g. modelling, carving and assemblage.

What topics are covered?

Topics are determined by your ideas and areas of interest as well as choice of material, these include: modelling and casting, using clay and plaster; construction with metals and wood. You may chose to work figuratively or with abstract concepts.

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is for those with some experience of the sculptural process and understanding of the formal elements. You need to be willing to learn new processes and challenge your ideas. Not suitable for beginners.

How will I learn?

Through the use of materials and in discussion with your tutor and technician. You will be expected to develop a personal theme for your work based on sculptural concepts.

Where will I need to go on my first day?

On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Roper Building at City Centre Campus.

Please wear safety shoes and aprons

There is a lot of background noise in this busy studio.
To avoid disappointment, please make sure you enrol on your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course.
