Studio Painting with 44AD

This popular Studio Painting with 44AD course provides further opportunity to extend your painting practice with guidance from experienced tutors.

You will be working from themed briefs and will be given practical support to further your knowledge of painting processes. You will primarily be working as a group in our studios on personal developments from a variety of stimuli that will encompass practical applications and the development of a personal narrative along with investigations into theory and contextual study.

This year sees a planned collaboration with 44AD. It is envisaged that some additional space will be made available for students to use on the day of the course for seminars, group collaboration and tutorials. A number of guest lecturers and visiting artists will be included in the course to focus group discussion and reflection.

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is aimed at those with some prior experience in painting and general Art & Design.   For students wishing to develop and explore their own practice as an individual studio painter, ideal for mature students wanting to explore their personal development in this area or those with ambitions to develop a portfolio for entry to higher level Fine Art courses.

Who will be my tutor?

This programme will be taught collaboratively between Fine Art tutors based at the College and artists working at 44AD Gallery, Bath.

How will I learn?

You will be supported by learning painting processes and theory to develop your own work through thematic briefs culminating in the presentation of preparatory studies and final paintings. There will be formal teaching as well as the opportunity for tutorials and informal discussion groups with peer students approaching the same projects.

The course will also take place at 44AD Gallery – their art space is near our College painting studios and situated adjacent to Bath Abbey. You will have access for periods of time during the course to work with the 44AD gallery co-ordinator on a specific project.

Are there any additional costs?

General painting and drawing materials will be provided including some primed paper.

Your tutors will advise on specialist paint brushes, sketchbooks and a general art kit.
