The Drawing Course
The Drawing Course will challenge your preconceptions about drawing as you experiment with mark-making and process; you will also be taught the formal elements of drawing through a variety of subject matter including life drawing. We would recommend this drawing course for anyone wishing to further develop themselves as an artist. The drawing course is also suitable for students developing portfolios for A-level and entry onto our full time Art and Design courses. Drawing is a fundamental tool for any aspiring artist or designer. In order to communicate ideas, artists need to develop a visual language. Drawing development is the key to unlocking creative responses in all aspects of Art and Design.
What topics are covered?
Materials and approaches to mark making; Surfaces, grounds/papers; Approaches to drawing – measuring, proportion, scale; Formal drawing language – tone, line, form, structure, surface; Drawing as a tool to develop and extend ideas; Approaches to experimental drawing, materials and process.
Who will be my tutor?
Steven Dixon is a practicing fine artist with 15 years teaching experience in HE, FE and Adult Education.
How will I learn?
Learning will be developed through practical studio based exercises, group work/discussion and through individual tuition.

All core materials used in the sessions will be provided. Your tutor will provide you with an advisory materials list that you may wish to purchase to supplement your work.

Where will I need to go on my first day?On your first day, please report to the Reception in the Roper Building at City Centre Campus.
What do I need to bring?
Your tutor will advise you on images and items to bring to sessions.
What else do I need to know?To avoid disappointment, please make sure you enrol on your chosen course early. Decisions regarding running or cancelling a course are made one week prior to the start of the course. If a course is cancelled, you will be informed and your course fees refunded in full.
