Course Overview
This Computing HNC is an exciting and challenging part-time course, delivered over 2 years, that helps prepare students for work in the computer industry. During this course, students will develop skills that are in current demand such as: data analytics, programming, web design and development, security, professional practice, computer systems architecture, database design and development, networking, strategic information systems, and managing a successful computing project. Students from this course may be already employed in, or will move into, a variety of jobs from IT technician, to web developer and other technical support roles. After completing the HNC, students may consider continuing on to HND (level 5), subject to sufficient numbers applying, which normally will require students to complete further units at level 5 over a period of one year. The course aims to enhance your IT skills across a range of key areas in order to develop your knowledge and experience in preparation for further study or employment.

There are several accepted entry requirements: BTEC Level 3 Extended/Diploma AS / A2 / A levels Four GCSEs at C/4 or above including Maths and English language Access to HE Diploma You will also need English and Maths GCSE (full qualification) minimum grade C/4. Please be aware mature students will be considered on an individual basis.
Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Computing (year 1 and 2). Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Computing (year 3), subject to sufficient numbers of students applying.
There are normally 2 or 3 assignments set for each unit. In order to meet the specific assessment criteria of the unit undertaken, each assignment will require you to demonstrate your ability to carry out research and solve computing related problems. Assessment evidence includes written reports, presentations and completed artefact/prototype (such as a website or database system). Assignments test understanding and ability to apply knowledge, carry out research and solve computing related problems. For example, an assignment in web development might ask you to explain and discuss server technologies and management services associated with hosting and managing websites. Another assignment in web development might ask you to utilise good design principles to create a multipage website.
Successful completion of the course usually leads into employment or a Higher level Apprenticeship or continued study at HE level on to a Higher National Diploma.
